Due to the newly born baby's legs, hospital doctors could not determine the sex of the child. In a hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, a rare species of baby is born like a mermaid. The upper part of the body is normal and the lower part of the lower part is unusual, which looks like a fishery. This rare condition is called sirenomella or mermaid syndrome. Dubbed as the mermaid baby, doctors could not identify the sex of the child due to the underdeveloped pelvis and fused legs.
Muskura bibi gave birth to the child normally in Chittaranjan Deva Sadan Hospital under the government of Calcutta. The 23-year-old woman gave birth to such a child not to be able to test pregnancy due to financial constraints. Doctors could not save the child for having malaria syndrome. Mermaid syndrome is believed to affect one in every 60,000 to 100,000 births.
